What our customers say about us

Here`s what people are saying about The Lord Nelson

Visited here with friends for lunch. Good range of beers on display. Standard lunch menu. Good selection covering all tastes.
Our party chose the pubs own beef and ale pie, and fish and chips. Good service and food arrived promptly. Very tasty.
Well worth a visit you will not be disappointed.

Picked the Lord Nelson as a midway point to meet-up have some lunch and exchange Christmas presents.
Having never set foot in the Lord Nelson or Sutton on Trent before it was a pleasant surprise to be made most welcome. Food was very good and it was an ideal place to meet up and have a chat.
We will certainly pay them another visit if we are in the area again

Great food & atmosphere

We stopped off en route from the north of England to Norfolk as this was a halfway point. It’s only 5-10mins from the A1 and far better than any motorway cafe. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and a great breakfast menu (at weekends). We had sausage butty’s (sandwich) - very tasty sausages and bread fresh from the bakers. Huge cups of tea and coffee. The full breakfasts looked fantastic! Will definitely be putting this on our list of regular stops and highly recommend it.

We booked a cottage for the weekend with a couple of friends and their dogs. The Lord Nelson was our meeting point on Friday lunchtime and we met in bar room as dogs are allowed in the bar. The barman, who may have been the manager, was very friendly as were the locals that were having a lunchtime beer. Our lunch was spot on and good value so booked to come back for lunch on Sunday. The Sunday lunch was large and great value though on a Sunday the weekday/Saturday lunch was not available so the only choice for the vegetarian in our party was the Sunday lunch with vegetarian sausages.

Went here on a Sunday with family. There were nine of us and one small child. As soon as we arrived the friendly landlord welcomed us and took our drinks order. When the drinks arrived we ordered Sunday roast which I have to say was delicious. Throughout the day the staff were very friendly, attentive and professional. Sometimes it can be difficult serving a large group but this was never a problem. The whole experience made for a lovely family afternoon. I’m not from the area but would love to return to the pub when visiting my family who live nearby

We came yesterday for a roast and it was delicious! The portion size was very generous as was the variety of veg. All was cooked to perfection. Every meal we've had here has been lovely. My mum, brother and sister-in-law came to stay in February and had a perfect stay. Breakfast was amazing! Staff are lovely and really helpful. The atmosphere is that of a proper vibrant local pub, a rarity these days. Keep doing what you're doing

We loved having dinner downstairs while our little one slept upstairs. the staff were really friendly. We had a balcony outside our room so we could spill out of our room. The pub is really well located for people wanting to stop off on their way North or South on the A1. We stayed in a room in the pub so that our baby monitor worked, but we think you could stay in a stable room and pick up the signal.

My first visit to The Lord Nelson, Sutton on Trent near Newark and was pleasantly surprised - the Sunday lunch was lovely, veg cooked al dente as I like them and there was plenty of it. The pub is olde world in the bar, the dining room is modern and with enough room between tables! I really enjoyed the meal and will return, thank you The Lord Nelson!

First time we have eaten at the Lord Nelson and it was a good experience. Good value well cooked food serviced by friendly relaxed staff. Real fire and ale took the chill of the rain away. Recommend - 5 stars

From Trip Advisor January 2018

Great food, friendly staff, great atmosphere, massive selection of beers, wines, gin's etc. Reasonably priced and you are always made very welcome

From Trip Advisor October 2017

Amazing local pub, just as one should be, informal bar area, excellently kept real ales, wide selection of drinks- and a great atmosphere to boot. Then the food, definitely beyond local pub grub although that can be catered for. Extensive menu, including light bites, with fantastic local fresh specials board. For my birthday meal I had scallops (cooked beautifully) followed by pink lamb then homemade pear & blackberry frangipane. Utterly faultless & delicious. Local gems of pubs like this - use 'em or lose 'em.

We stayed in the stable room which was nice, with comfy beds and lovely bathroom. The food was nice and the breakfast was really good with local sausages. Staff were really friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay again. Plus there's a lovely garden and play area.

Lovely fish and chips at the Lord Nelson last night. It was two for one so did wonder what the portion sizes would like , they didn't cut back. Lovely and fresh will definitely be going back again for more!

I have lunch here regularly twice a week, and can honestly say it is the Best Place in this area! The food is superb. Can really recommend the Fish dishes from the Specials' board! But you have to act fast- they change weekly, but are truly scrumptious!

From Trip Advisor - December 2016

The team at The Nelson were great - hosting my father's 90th birthday party. Everyone commented on both the quality and quantity of the food. The staff were superb at both help with pre-planning for the event and the lovely family breakfast we enjoyed the next day.

From Trip Advisor - November 2016

My daughter had a fantastic 5th birthday party here!! I asked at very short notice and Sally and Martin couldn't do enough for us. So grateful for everything - they made the party stress free, so organised and all staff are brill! Party food was great and so was the atmosphere. Absolutely outstanding many thanks!!

Lovely meal last night, every course was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff were really friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back!

I have 4 children and was delighted that this wonderful pub could accommodate us in the Blacksmiths suite without us being put in separate rooms. Very clean, comfy beds (3 double beds and one single bed!!) so all the kids slept really well. Food is delicious & the prices were reasonable & good choice on local bitters. We happened to stay on quiz night and were warmly welcomed by the landlord Martin who encouraged us to join in the quiz. The staff were lovely and my husband enjoyed the Full Nelson breakfast in the morning. We will definitely return next time we are in the area!!

From Trip Advisor July 2016

I have always loved The Lord Nelson but under the new management there is that little something extra that makes it an absolute delight to visit. I have the joy of having it as my local. I visit regularly & am always impressed with the food, range of alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks & the wonderfully warm greeting from ALL the staff.

From Trip Advisor July 2016

Visited the Lord Nelson for a family party and had a fantastic time. The party was in the function room at the back of the pub which is lovely and is next to the kids area which was ideal for the 14 kids that we had at the party!
The food was really lovely and loads of it! Really friendly staff who could not have been more helpful. Wish it was my local but can really recommend it for functions or family get togethers.
